The shape of things to come

I am knitting a blanket for a friend's housewarming. In July. It's almost December. I just thought I would have it done, but man, when did summer become winter? You know, it seems the older that I get, the quicker time begins to fly. Anywho, That blanket is not going to make the deadline, so what do I do? I knit a scarf! I want the scarf to say, "dear friend, I am working at a snails pace while time is running a hare ahead, so here is a scarf which I hope will smooth over the fact that you will probably not receive this blanket until late winter/early spring. Enjoy." Do you think that he will agree:



The odd background is a divider I found at an antiques place years ago. The scarf was knitted with approx. 2 skeins of Noro Silk Garden using the multi-directional scarf pattern. It's funny how a pattern seems difficult and then one day, I pick it up and begin knitting without a thought. When I encounter a problem, I look it over, troubleshoot, frog it and re-knit. No fuss, no muss. Growth is a funny thing. It just happens.

Believe it or not, I still knit from time to time

I knitted these bibs for a knitting pal and I couldn't post until now. The shower was just a week ago (right?) and as grace would have it, she delivered baby boy the next day! He couldn't wait to hang out with moms and pops. Peace and blessings, little one~

Now, her mom said that she wasn't mad about the hat, just not wanting to be directed in the photo shoot, but I tell ya, whether or not she's happy, I'm happy she is wearing the hat (and it fits!)

It will certainly keep her warm. I used one skein of the alchemy yarns-synchronicity (50/50 wool&silk) in color - koi pond.

Rather pricey for a one skein project, but the experience of frogging, er knitting was totally full of joy and elation.

just a little note to say. . .

That I've recently completed knitting 3 wash cloths for a church member, and this musical note (she teaches music) is the only one I remembered to take a picture of and alas, it is not showing up very well. Pink never shows up well when I shoot it. :(

Now that it's warming up. . .

why not finish off a nice merino hat? Remember this? It was the hat I ended the year with and promised myself I would complete. . .well I kept my promise--it is finally a FO. The fact that it took me an extra couple of months and is completed now that a major cold snap is over, but who's counting. Not to mention this was actually a Christmans gift. . . hey, it will be well appreciated (I hope). A good lesson learned here--if you think the pattern is off, you frog it and it still seems off--remake the pattern. I held on to this hat longer than I should just to get it right. Now that it is blocked (and as you can see, it really does make a difference), I can see there is a mistake, but someone who doesn't knit--I doubt he will notice. I picked up this yarn from Springwater Fiber Workshop (a great LYS). It's an Italian merino wool called Dive Autunno in colorway cookies and cream. It was yummy to knit with and I love this colorway. I picked up a couple of balls for myself in a beautiful orangey color. I will post that once I begin knitting it up. I plan to find another hat pattern.




Now here is the sock from last year as well--all that's needed is to graft the toe (will have to check in with my knitsters at Knit Night for a primer:

Finally, here is some bold and beautiful skeins I picked up from a newly open LYS called The Tangled Skein. Not too far from work, and the atmosphere seems really welcoming. I have an idea of what to do with this, but I will have to find just the right pattern. This is a 50/50 alpaca and tencel blend by Classic Elite called "Miracle." The label says that it is a great weight for a shell or tank and a "year round yarn in most climates." We'll see about that.
